Method Overview

• Used to quantify an anion additive (adipic acid or dibasic acid) concentrations in scrubber liquors
• Analyses by Ion Chromatography.

Target Compounds

• Adipic acid (C₆H₁₀O₄)
• This acid is a buffering agent added to FGD's in order to buffer the liquor pH

Performance Tips

• Liquor collected from in-line filtration (positive pressure);
• Sample preservation (dilution) with borate buffer and formaldehyde preservative.
  • Weigh sample bottle including label and cap to the nearest 0.01 g and record weight;
  • Add about 75 mL of DI water to the bottle;
  • Reweigh bottle (including cap) to the nearest 0.01 g and record weight;
  • Label as "Deionized Water Diluted Filtrate"
  • Color coding bottles (preservatives) can help with later identification.

Shipping

• Samples may be shipped at ambient temperatures.
• Be sure to include a chain of custody for each shipping container.

Applications

• Determine the concentrations of buffering agents within FGD liquors;
• Can readily be modified for determining Glutric and Succinic acid concentrations.
