EPRI Method I4 - Adipic Acid in Scrubber Liquors
Method Overview
- Used to quantify an anion additive (adipic acid or dibasic acid) concentrations in scrubber liquors
- Analyses by Ion Chromatography.
Target Compounds
- Adipic acid (C6H10O4)
- This acid is a buffering agent added to FGD's in order to buffer the liquor pH
Performance Tips
- Liquor collected from in-line filtration (positive pressure);
- Sample preservation (dilution) with borate buffer and formaldehyde preservative.
- Weigh sample bottle including label and cap to the nearest 0.01 g and record weight;
- Add about 75 mL of DI water to the bottle;
- Reweigh bottle (including cap) to the nearest 0.01 g and record weight;
- Label as "Deionized Water Diluted Filtrate"
- Color coding bottles (preservatives) can help with later identification.
Shipping
- Samples may be shipped at ambient temperatures.
- Be sure to include a chain of custody for each shipping container.
Applications
- Determine the concentrations of buffering agents within FGD liquors;
- Can readily be modified for determining Glutric and Succinic acid concentrations.
