EPRI Method I1 - Ca/Mg Content
Method Overview
- Used to quantify calcium and magnesium concentrations in scrubber liquors
- Analyses by Ion Chromatography.
Target Compounds
- Magnesium (Mg);
- Calcium (Ca).
Performance Tips
- Liquor collected from in-line filtration (positive pressure);
- Sample preservation (dilution) with nitric acid preservative.
- Weigh sample bottle including label and cap to the nearest 0.01 g and record weight;
- Add about 75 mL DI water to bottle;
- Add 1 mL concentrated Ultrex HNO3 to bottle;
- Reweigh bottle (including cap) to the nearest 0.01 g and record weight;
- Label as "Cation DF with HNO3"
- Color coding bottles (preservatives) can help with later identification.
Shipping
- The HNO3 preservation solution should be shipped as a hazardous material. Please call for IATA codes if you need them.
- Samples may be shipped at ambient temperatures.
- Be sure to include a chain of custody for each shipping container.
Applications
- Useful for calcium and magnesium determinations in lime and limestone scrubbing liquors;
- The analysis faster than the other available methods if many samples are being analyzed;
- Solids can be anlayzed to determine reagent utilization.
